Global Voices at the Southbank Centre

As part of Global Voices, hosted by the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Jonathan Dove’s There Was a Child will be performed at the Royal Festival Hall on 17 April 2017. There Was a Child is modern oratorio commissioned by a mother whose son died tragically young, the work sets beautiful poems by a variety of authors, celebrating childhood, bringing comfort and offering hope.

Six days prior, Jonathan begins a two-year appointment as associate composer with VOCES8 with a performance of The Passing of the Year on 11 April 2017 at St John’s Smith Square.
The ensemble will perform a piece by Dove in each of its 240 concerts across the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons. It will also commission a new piece to be performed in 2019, the composer’s 60th birthday year, and will collaborate with Jonathan on performances, workshops and recordings.
